The Sun City West Art Club is once again working with the Nadaburg Unified School District to provide an award program for student artists.

The goal of this program is to encourage young artists from an early age and help them not only develop their artistic skills, but realize the joy that involvement in the arts can bring.

The Nadaburg School district is located northwest of the metropolitan Phoenix area, and is made up of two elementary schools: Nadaburg Elementary in Whittmann and Desert Oasis in Surprise. Mountainside High school is located in Whittmann. For the first time, students from the high school will also be showing their art work in the show.

From the very beginning, 21 years ago, club member Ron Fernandez has been the sponsor for this program. This year he will be working with Lin Buckbinder, also of the club. The coordinator for the program at Nadaburg is Erica Chapman, a teacher at Desert Oasis.

Two judges from the Art Club will review all the work submitted and assign ribbons and prizes for first, second, third and honorable mention in each group. There will also be the Best in Show award. The 32 winning posters, with their ribbons, will be mounted for display 1 p.m. at the April 17 general meeting of the Art Club, to be held at the R.H. Johnson Center Social Hall in Sun City West.

The winning students, their parents and school representatives are invited and the prizes and monetary awards will be handed out to the youngsters after the show. Cake, soda and snacks will be available. All Art Club members are also encouraged to attend this special event. Interested members of the community are also welcome.
