Arrowhead campus adds administrators

Join hospital’s leadership team

Abrazo Arrowhead campus, 18701 N. 67th Ave., Glendale officials welcomed two executives to its leadership team.

Julie Bowman is the hospital’s new chief nursing officer and Shalen Young is chief financial officer.

An accomplished nurse leader with a strong focus on patient-centered care and clinical excellence, Ms. Bowman brings nearly 40 years of nursing leadership experience to the Abrazo Arrowhead campus. She most recently served as senior vice president of Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where she was responsible for improving key quality metrics, patient safety, employee and patient satisfaction.Ms.

Bowman earned her Master of Science in nursing from Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has also held chief nursing officer positions at Havasu Regional Medical Center in Arizona and Lima Memorial Health System in Lima, Ohio. 

Mr. Young brings a depth of hospital financial management experience to Abrazo Arrowhead campus, and will oversee the hospital’s finance, case management and materials management teams. He most previously served as chief financial officer for Arizona Specialty Hospital, and has also held several key financial leadership positions for Banner Health and the Cleveland Clinic. Mr. Young earned his Master of Business Administration and bachelor’s degrees in finance from Arizona State University.

I’d also like to thank Omar Pineda for serving as interim CNO in addition to a continuing role as our chief operating officer. Our great Arrowhead team have been tremendously successful in providing excellent care to our community,” said Abrazo Arrowhead Campus CEO Stephen Garner. “I am incredibly optimistic about Arrowhead’s future.”

Abrazo Arrowhead Campus is a teaching hospital that serves the Northwest Valley as a destination for maternity and newborn care, cardiovascular and orthopedic services, and minimally invasive and robotic surgical services. The new Abrazo Surprise Hospital is a satellite of the Arrowhead campus.

The Abrazo Arrowhead campus earned High Performing rankings for five adult procedures and conditions in the 2020-21 US News & World Report “Best Hospitals: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Congestive Heart Failure, Colon Cancer Surgery, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Hip Replacement.” The hospital also was recognized this year with the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Blue Distinction Center Award for knee and hip replacement for meeting national standards for quality and affordability.
