Abrazo Health’s AngioScreen stroke and heart attack risk assessments are coming to Abrazo Surprise Hospital, the city’s first full service hospital, which will offer the screenings 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at 16815 W. Bell Road.
AngioScreen exam results may indicate an individual’s risk for heart attacks, stroke or peripheral artery disease.
“We’ve had some great catches at recent AngioScreen events with finding arrhythmias, plaque build-up in the carotid artery and a couple of people were in hypertensive crisis,” said Abrazo Health Outreach Manager Cindy Roberts, RN.
Abrazo’s AngioScreen takes about 10 minutes and its $59 cost includes a consultation with a clinician. Blood flow in carotid and ankle arteries, a simple EKG for heart rhythm, a blood pressure check and overall fitness assessment are included in the screening.
Participants get color ultrasound photos of their carotid arteries and exam results, which they can share with personal physician for follow up on any potential issues that may be identified.
“The screenings have been very popular with Surprise and Sun City-area residents. We’re pleased to offer this event at Abrazo Surprise Hospital,” said Roberts. “We’ve had a very positive response to previous events and expect the Oct. 21 event to fill quickly.”
Heart attacks affect more than 805,000 men and women annually in the U.S., and every year, more than 795,000 people in the U.S. have a stroke, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
