A Friendship Bench was recently erected in the school playground area at Willow District Zuni Hills Elementary School, 10851 W. Williams Road, Sun City, part of Peoria Unified School District.
These engraved benches are made from recycled plastics, and are guaranteed to last 50 years.
Peoria Pioneer Lions Club members realize the importance of having and making friends in school. Too often children feel alone and sad at school, so the Lions are placing Friendship Benches in various schools in Peoria and the surrounding areas. Now when a child is on the playground and is feeling down or lonely, they can go sit on the bench. Other children will see the child and are encouraged to join the child on the bench and make friends.
Peoria Pioneer Lions Club will have placed 16 Friendship Benches in Peoria and Glendale Schools this school year.
All are welcome to share community service with Peoria Pioneer Lions Club at their 7 a.m. breakfast meetings held the second and fourth Thursdays each month at Mercer’s Restaurant, 9720 W. Peoria Ave., Peoria.
