Letter by Frank Zeller of Sun City
Over the years I have noticed many in Sun City leaving excess oranges, lemons and grapefruit for garbage collection.
St. Mary’s Food Bank, 13050 W. Elm Street, Surprise, AZ 85378, open daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., will gladly accept any excess citrus from your trees through April 30 and makes juice to feed the hungry, not only locally, but for various tribes in the state!
If you live in Sun City and Sun City West, they may even pick it off your trees for free!
Here is their website for more info so you can help the less fortunate: firstfoodbank.org/citrus-gleaning-seasonal.
