Yrefy helps distressed borrowers regain control of their debt and their lives

Yrefy, LLC, is dedicated to helping distressed borrowers regain control of their student loan debt by offering prime rates for refinancing.  Established in 2017 by professionals in the student loan industry, Yrefy (pronounced why-refi) embarked on a mission to assist Distressed Private Student Loan Borrowers while providing consistent returns on investment for its valued investors.

“Through innovation, capitalism, and entrepreneurship, Yrefy has created a unique investment opportunity where investors can earn exceptional, fixed interest rates in a secured and collateralized portfolio, with maximum flexibility, a liquidity feature, and investment terms from one to five years,” explained Laine Schoneberger, Chief Investment Officer and Managing Partner at Yrefy, located at 6910 E. Chauncey Lane, Suite 130, Phoenix. “By leveraging this investment opportunity in a $45B industry, Yrefy has created the first and only solution for Distressed Private Student Loan Borrowers to quickly and effectively pay off their Student Loans with dignity and has done so with a 98% success rate after nearly seven years.”

Schoneberger adds that with Private Student Loans being bankruptcy-protected, not subject to the federal student loan forgiveness conversation, and nearly all Private Student Loans having variable interest rates, borrowers are “desperately seeking a solution, a solution only offered by Yrefy.”

Schoneberger started his career as a financial advisor working alongside his father, who started their company, Campbell, Schoneberger & Associates, Ltd., in 1968.  Before his father passed away, he shared that he wanted to be remembered as having given back in “a big and meaningful way,” and helping people protect, save, and grow their wealth was his chosen profession to do just that.

Having passed the sense of “service to others” to his son, Schoneberger was presented with an opportunity. “After 25 years in the financial services business, I was approached by one of my first clients who invited me to join forces to start Yrefy and help people get out of debt fast and change their lives for the better,” stated Schoneberger. “Knowing that helping one person at a time was good, taking the approach we are taking through Yrefy would be great! We can help hundreds of thousands of people in a big and meaningful way, much faster than one person at a time.”

Schoneberger subsequently sold the practice in 2017 and became a founding partner at Yrefy, which is also a community-oriented company involved with the Scottsdale Jazz Festival, which supports underprivileged youth in music. Yrefy is also considering involvement with a new organization called The Stop Starts Here, which is an organization focused on education of known and unknown drug abuse in youth.

At the end of the day, Schoneberger said he gets the most pleasure from interviewing borrowers whom Yrefy has helped: “The borrower testimonials are what excites me the most about what we do here.  I love to watch them win.”

It has also been a pleasure and treat to receive endorsements from notable people from Dave Ramsey, Dennis Prager, Larry Elder, Shane Doan, and many others. Schoneberger said, “I know these individuals take their endorsements seriously, and most have been into the Yrefy Offices to learn about us before they were willing to endorse us. Meeting these people has been a lot of fun, and when they hear the Borrower testimonials, I feel that it moves and motivates them like it does me.”

Schoneberger married his high school sweetheart, and they have been together for more than 30 years, married for 23. Arizona natives who now live in Chandler, the couple has four kids ranging from 16 to 28 and one grandchild on the way. They also have a dog, Zipper, and a cat, Mercury.

Schoneberger, who considers his father, Robert Schoneberger, and grandfather, Max Kelter, as his biggest influences, offers this advice to anyone thinking about starting their own business: “So much advice to give, but the first thing is, take that first step, don’t be afraidFind a need, fill a need, and you can do anything you put your mind to.”

At Yrefy, Schoneberger says they have created something unique on both sides of the business, acknowledging there were significant barriers to entry, but they figured it out. And now, Schoneberger can proudly proclaim Yrefy as firmly set apart from any other company, stating, “We don’t have any competition; we are the only company doing what we do!”
