The Sun City Foundation began in 1986 as an organization to help residents who are under the poverty level and do not have the resources to pay the RCSC yearly assessment. Currently, the assessment is $575 and many individuals cannot find the funds to pay.
The Foundation board of directors must have two individuals from the RCSC Board as the president and vice president. The other board members have to be a majority of those who have served on the RCSC board in the past and then were elected by the SCF board to continually serve as members. According to the bylaws, anyone wishing to be on the SCF board must be voted on by the current board and receive a majority vote.
In January, two individuals applied to be on the SCF Board and were unanimously voted no by the current SCF board due to their lack of qualifications.
The Foundation has existed on donations for 38 years and last year a Sun City resident left his estate to the foundation when he passed. This brought our assets to a level that we will never have to worry about funds.
Now, the RCSC board has changed the bylaws so that they can be responsible for electing the SCF board members because the individuals that were not voted on our board are friends of the RCSC board and they are going to utilize the funds for RCSC purposes, not for charitable purposes.
They voted to unanimously to change these two bylaws. This is the our current RCSC board.
The above caused a 23-year SCF board member to resign. We lost a very experienced asset.
