West Valley Temple to host 6-week online course

Temple Beth Shalom of the West Valley, 12202 N. 101st Ave., Sun City, is offering a new six-week adult education course – “Introduction to High Holy Days Prayers.”

The interactive, virtual course is being team-taught by Rabbi Dana Evan Kaplan, Cantor Baruch Koritan and Educator Andre Ivory, and is designed to appeal to those who know nothing about Judaism or Jews who choose to get a better understanding of the significance of the High Holiday prayers.

Participants will look at the High Holy Day liturgical experience from Selichot (Saturday night before Rosh Hashanah) all the way through Neilah at the end of Yom  Kippur. Specific topics will include the Avinu Malkeinu prayer, the Shofar service, the Vidui prayer, Untaneh Tokef, and Kol Nidre.

The course will take place 1-2 p.m. on six Thursdays beginning Thursday, Aug. 20. Cost for Temple Beth Shalom members is $18, and $40 for non-members. Registration fee includes all course materials (sent via email) and  access to the course on Zoom.
