West Valley Arts Council appoints new president, CEO

Sandra Bassett brings 20+ years of experience

West Valley Arts Council, 16126 N. Civic Center Plaza, Surprise, announced that Sandra Bassett, an accomplished arts and culture and business professional, is its new president and chief executive officer.

Ms. Bassett has extensive experience in cultural program implementation, finance management and revenue growth for prominent for-profit and non-profit organizations.

“I am excited to have this opportunity to continue the great work the WVAC has done in the West Valley since 1969, and to be bringing new creative programming to fruition that will continue to strengthen the West Valley Arts Council and make the West Valley stand out among other regions in the state,” Ms. Bassett stated in a news release.

Her international and national arts and cultural experience, combined with her years of leadership roles in business, gives her the knowledge and capabilities this role needs.

“The board is excited about Sandra’s magic mix of business and arts experience,” board chairperson Kathy Knecht stated. “Her incredible enthusiasm and energy will be instrumental in re-energizing West Valley Arts. Our goal is to be well-positioned to meet the cultural needs of West Valley cities, community arts organizations, students and the community at large. We’re committed to being the arts and culture leader for the region and we are confident that Sandra will help us deliver.”

Ms. Bassett has earned her M.B.A. in Business Administration from Walden University and a Bachelor’s in Business Management from Kentucky State University. Her background in executive and managerial positions includes such brands as Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, Hostess Brand, Inc, and Mars Inc.

She is also an educator, trainer, motivational speaker and professional musician. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, and now based in Phoenix, Ms. Bassett enjoys performing in many styles, including jazz, R&B, blues and Motown. She is also a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and other community and professional organizations.

West Valley Arts Council was incorporated as the Cultural Arts Society West in 1969.
