100+ ukulele players gather for Sun City joint jam

Posted

The Sun City Ukulele Club hosted the Northwest Valley Ukulele Club Nov. 14 at the Fairway Center in Sun City for the first ever joint jam.

Trudy Bryson, president of Sun City Ukulele Club, and Lauren Erickson, performance leader for the Northwest Valley Ukulele club, have been working for more than a year to bring this event together. And the results included 103 ukulele players jamming together.

Each club led 10 selections for the group to play and sing: pop and rock, folk, a classical piece and the state song of Arizona. The common thread throughout was a love of music, an enjoyment in playing the ukulele and the fellowship of sister organizations. Preliminary feedback is that both clubs would like to see this become an annual event.

RCSC card holders are always welcome to join the Sun City Ukulele Club. No previous experience needed. The Sun City Ukulele Club offers members free lessons on the first and third Thursday of the month at 1:30 p.m. in the Fairway Center. Lessons range from how to hold a ukulele and play simple chords to playing complex chord progressions.
