The Sundial Men’s Club has donated $2,500 to the Sun Cities Historical Society.
Bret McKeand, president of the society, said they were appreciative of this donation and hope to use the money to enhance their video and audio equipment for their presentation room in the museum.
The historical society is located next to the Oakmont Center in one of the original model homes built when Sun City opened Jan. 1, 1960. Through photos and videos they display the history of the community and the individuals who invented the concept — the first active retirement community in the nation.
The original home is now The Sun City Museum, and the displays located within capture what life was like in the early 1960s. They also feature exhibits on Del Webb, sister city Sun City West and aspects of the active retirement lifestyle pioneered in Sun City. The construction and development of the Sun Bowl is also a prominent exhibit.
The historical society keeps artifacts and collections of the buildings in Sun City and the records of all the clubs that have existed over the years. In addition, everyone can tour the museum and they will host events and presentations for groups upon request.
