Northwest Valley residents can walk for health and a cause during Sun Health Foundation’s Walk for Women’s Health.

The event is scheduled 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 6.

Participants can walk the way they want during this “fun-raising” 5K event designed with consideration for their safety. They can walk in Surprise at the race site or participate virtually. They can walk individually, or form a team with family, friends, neighbors or coworkers. Runners are also welcome.

Whichever way participants choose, they will not only support their own health but also the health of women and families in the community. The walk benefits the Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center, 14502 W. Meeker Blvd., Sun City West Women and Infant Services through the Generosity for Generations campaign.

Staying active is a crucial part of staying healthy and walking is a great place to start. According to Alex Stark, MS, Sun Health wellness specialist, walking can help the body circulate nutrients, reduce blood pressure, improve the immune system, reduce stress and can motivate people to begin a fitness routine.

Each pre-registered participant is guaranteed a race shirt, and everyone receives a finisher’s medal. This is a chip-timed 5K.

Special consideration is being given to the times the world is in and the heightened need to be safe. Safety measures will be implemented, including wearing masks and social distancing.

The cost is $25 when registering by Saturday, Dec. 5, and $30 on race day, plus processing fee. To register, visit SunHealthFoundation.org/walk or contact Janine McGhee at Janine.McGhee@sunhealth.org or 623-471-8503.
