Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, 13658 W. Meeker Blvd., will host Mario Carboni, the “Honky Tonk Rebel,” for an evening of music 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31. This concert is free and open to the public.
Carboni’s journey into music began at a young age – playing keyboards at just 9 months old. With a touring schedule that spans 35 states annually, from Alaska to New York City, he brings honky tonk and country music to life in every performance.
Carboni’s career highlights include performances and recordings with country music figures such as Red Simpson and Norm Hamlet, a seven-time ACM award-winning Hall of Fame bandleader with Merle Haggard for 49 years. He has also collaborated with Steve Earle, Jimmy Phillips, Susan Raye, Johnny Rodriguez and Earl Poole Ball, the longtime pianist for Johnny Cash.
His contributions to music include five studio albums and songs recorded by other notable artists, including the bluegrass group the Crowe Brothers.
