Sun City West resident Nancy Kasten has announced the release of her new book, “Journeys into Cassidy: Stories of a Small Town.”

Set in the 1950s, the stories in “Journeys into Cassidy” focus on life in a small town. A younger man tries to find contentment in his life but is haunted by mistakes made in his past. Two sisters vie for their father’s admiration resulting in a jealousy that can only be handled in one way. A sheriff lets his love for a victim of a crime interfere with his investigation and his family life. A dog puts his life in jeopardy trying to reunite with his master.

These stories and others explore a range of human emotion as the characters attempt to find the forgiveness and reconciliation, the understanding and peace that each need. Their journeys, some real, others mental, lead them to the little town called, Cassidy.

The stories tell the tales of ordinary people who draw on their own inner strength and the support of their community to get through not so ordinary problems of life. They are stories from the heart, slices of life, sprinkled with tears and laughter, and they all happened in Cassidy. While her characters are living their own “period authentic lives,” it is possible to see ourselves within them, peering out.

“Journeys into Cassidy” is the second book of fiction written by Kasten, following “It Happened in Cassidy,” released in October 2020.

While bringing the characters of Cassidy to life consumes a lot of her time, Kasten enjoys living in Sun City West. She is retired from her career teaching high school English and drama in Ontario, Canada. In addition to the writing, she enjoys the library, the West Valley Symphony and Arizona Broadway Theatre, just to name a few of her activities. On a more physical level, she enjoys golfing, attending tai chi and jazzercise classes and especially traveling the world with her husband. She continues to write more tales of the trials and triumphs of the good, decent folk who live in the small town of Cassidy.

“Journeys into Cassidy” is published through Amazon in Kindle and paperback versions. Email smalltownstories@yahoo.com.
