The Sun City Starrs Swim Team hosted a relay competition among West Valley swim clubs April 5. The “just-for-fun” event drew 72 swimmers from five teams in Sun City, Sun City West, Sun City Festival, The Grand and Trilogy at Vistancia. The meet was named in tribute of Christa McLaren-Morris, a Starrs competitor, and honored swimmers Dolores Balding, Pat Morrison, Carsten Carlson and Margaret Tiffany, who all lost their lives to cancer. McLaren-Morris’s husband Marty Morris emceed the event In addition to friendly competition, skills in swim racing rules and etiquette were taught by U.S. Masters Swimming certified officials Larry Vose and Tom Alef. The event, which pitted teams against each other in sanctioned swim stroke relays, also featured four not-for-competition races. Coach Leslie Nock led the Sun City team and organized the relay teams.
