Shea Darian, director of Doing Grief Community Healing Project, will facilitate a “Story Circle” on the theme of forgiveness noon-1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the Doing Grief Community Healing Project located at Banner Olive Branch Senior Center, 13049 N. 103rd Ave.
Participants will be invited to share brief, spontaneous personal stories about their hopes, challenges and experiences with forgiveness as others listen in engaged silence. The story circle concludes with a conversation on the common themes that arise during the story-sharing and connections between stories and storytellers.
“The story circle tradition is all about building community,” Darian said. “As we listen to one another’s stories, we make deep connections with one another and realize we are one big human family.”
Darian said she chose the theme of forgiveness because it’s a common challenge when people are grieving.
“It can be tough to forgive yourself or someone else when you’re in the throes of grief,” she explained. “Sharing stories about the challenges and healing we encounter with forgiveness can help us discover what true forgiveness is.”
Doing Grief Community Healing Project programs and services include small group and one-to-one grief support, grief education, spiritual enrichment, and healing through the arts programs. Anyone experiencing grief related to death, illness, broken relationships, aging, a loss of hope or meaning or any loss that causes grief is welcome to attend.
Upcoming programs include a Prayer & Meditation Sampler with Darian and interfiath-interspiritual minister Lynette Turner noon-1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22, and Drum Making & Drum Painting with Dr. Lydia Woods noon-2 p.m. Thursdays, May 29 and June 5.
To RSVP, call Banner Olive Branch Senior Center at 623-465-6000, email Connect@DoingGrief.org or fill out the RSVP form at DoingGrief.org.
A suggested donation for most programs is $5-10 and for Drum Making and Drum Painting $20-30 per session. Donations can be given online at DoingGrief.org or at the door. All are welcome regardless of an ability to pay.
