We voted to have the government become more efficient and to root out any waste. We did not vote to have our Social Security numbers, bank account and credit card numbers released to people who do not hold clearances and who are not vetted through secure channels.
We are repeatedly told to guard our private data because as seniors we are a very vulnerable group to be targeted by scammers.
It is suggested that seniors should let their Social Security payments continue to go to direct deposit to the bank you’ve already designated. I believe it would be wise to open a new account at another bank and move any excess funds to that new account. That way, scammers wouldn’t be able to take all your money if they have all your private information.
Please consider contacting your state and federal representatives to let them know how unhappy you are that this situation has occurred and ask them to work to have this corrected immediately.
