There is a new look to the Sun City Posse website that officials believe will provide residents with a more clear picture of the organizations.

Following a renovation of the organization’s previous website, it is now available for visits, according to Richard Nonini, Sun City Posse commander. The Posse Board of Governors wanted to keep an online presence in the community and decided to revamp the existing one, he added.

“Our goal for the new site was to provide the community with timely information about Posse services and events,” Mr. Nonini stated in an email. “We also wanted to make it easier for users to find the information they need.”

The new site has a more streamlined look and more categories to navigate. While some categories, like the calendar, have nothing in them so far due to the coronavirus and Posse restrictions on community activities, other categories are populated with information.

These include information on the Posse’s various services, information about volunteer opportunities and the ability to donate online using Paypal or a credit card.

“There’s also the ability to request a vacation watch card or provide suggestions and feedback about the site using the ‘Contact Me’ option,” Mr. Nonini explained.

According to Danny Moore, Posse treasurer, the board views the website as an additional community service that provides timely information relevant to safety in the community.

“We’ve committed to adding additional features and information to ensure the website is a fresh and vital tool for the community,” Mr. Moore stated.

Annie Larson, the Posse Associate responsible for website content, led the site renovation effort.

“Future plans include fillable forms, slide shows of Posse events and information about the newest scams and frauds happening in the area,” she stated in an email. “The timing of the new site was perfect, as we were able to quickly announce to the public the changes the Posse implemented related to COVID-19.”

Those changes included the Posse front desk at the headquarters, 10861 W. Sunland Drive, being closed to walk-in traffic and canceling of general membership meetings until further notice.

“Our goal is to continue the basic Posse activities and focus on limiting physical contact,” Mr. Nonini stated. “In this time of uncertainty, the Posse patrol activities are important.”

Posse members will continue to patrol the community, but they will not perform any transports to medical facilities and doctor offices, according to Mr. Nonini.

“We have a list of phone numbers for alternate transport,” he stated.

In addition, all ride alongs are canceled. Only Posse members, including trainees, will participate in patrols, according to Mr. Nonini.

Posse officials also instituted a number of protocols for when members are on patrol. Limiting physical contact as much as possible is stressed in the protocols. Posse members are instructed to maintain a social distance of six feet when interacting with individuals.

The Posse also switched to a dispatch from home format April 15. Dispatchers now work from their own homes.

“We have a lot of members who have a variety of health issues, including respiratory ailments,” Toni Ashby, Posse communications officer, said. “So we did not want to have them in a situation of possible exposure.”

To solve the issue, Posse officials established two 7.5-hour dispatcher shifts. Ms. Ashby said nearly all the dispatchers said they would be willing to continue if they could do it from home. Dispatchers are provided with a laptop, cell phone and other equipment to complete their task. All equipment and paperwork is disinfected and placed into an already disinfected bag to be delivered to the dispatcher.
