SCFMD Fire Marshal Kenny Kovac talks fire safety
Posted
By Theresa O’Dell | Sun City Posse media relations
The May monthly meeting of the Sun City Posse had a full room of attendees, and a full agenda filled with information, appreciation and reflection.
Fire Marshal Kenny Kovac, with the Sun City Fire and Medical District, provided the information when he presented safety tips for keeping homes safe from fires and, if needed, what to do if a fire became a reality. Kovac discussed everything from fire preparedness to fire emergency. He discussed fire extinguishers and lock boxes and ended with the admonition to do what can be done to prepare for a fire emergency; but if such an incident occurs, call 911 and leave the house.
Posse Cmdr. Tina Anderson and Executive Officer Arlene Kluizenaar covered the appreciation piece of the meeting when they presented “We Make a Difference” recognition and awards to Cynthia Aseltine and Denis Aseltine for their above-and-beyond actions to assist a resident and her dog when she lost control of her vehicle and ran off the road.
The local resident was on hand for the recognition and presented a bouquet of flowers to Aseltine who stayed with her through entire ordeal. The Aseltines were not on patrol duty that day, but it didn’t keep them from using their training to assist with a positive outcome for this resident.
The meeting concluded as the Posse honored the memory of one of their own, Gene Papineau, a retiree who served 15 years with the Posse and recently passed. The Papineau family was on hand to witness the Last Call ceremony, a ritual conducted when a current or retired Posse patrol member passes.
Papineau was a respected member of the Posse who served in many capacities during his 15-year tenure, one of which was serving on the governing board. His service in the Posse and to the community will be missed.
