Sun City Posse honors outgoing commander, awards members

Posted

The Sun City Posse’s first general meeting of 2025 was held Jan. 7 at the Posse headquarters. The primary purpose of the meeting was to swear in newly elected commander and new members who will join the board of governors this year.

Just prior to the administering of the oath of office to the various volunteer groups, however, Cmdr. Tina Anderson took time to formally recognize the service of outgoing Cmdr. Sarah Davis. Prior to the presentation of an award, Anderson recognized the many accomplishments that took place during Davis’ watch. Davis served the Posse for more than 10 years with the last two as Posse commander, the highest ranking office.

MCSO Capt. Brian Stutsman was also on hand to administer the oath of office to the incoming commander, the incoming board members and the master sergeants and sergeants who will serve under the board lieutenants for 2025.

The slate of new officers joining the SCP board include Anderson and new board members Mary Bonogofsky (fund drive), Don Erlitz (support services/chaplain), Cyndy Ezsak (treasurer), Doyle Hood (operations), Bev Hooson (IT/communications), Diana Jeffers (recruiting), Arlene Kluizenaar (executive officer), Ron Pease (supply), Randy Roberts (community liaison) and Ken Steinman (Neighborhood Watch).

The meeting also featured several special recognition awards. Each year the Posse selects a patrol person and a support person of the year and these honors are selected from nominations by their peers within the Posse. For 2024, the patrol person of the year is Arlene Kluizenaar, who received an award and gift certificate from Big O Tires of Sun City. The support person honored was Cheryl Fallon, who was recognized with an award and a gift certificate from Clean Freak of Sun City. Both recipients were recognized based on their volunteer community contributions throughout the year.

A third award, the lifetime achievement award, was presented to Bev Hooson for her service to the Posse in technology. Hooson has spent the past three years upgrading and integrating all Posse databases and systems, a daunting task that streamlined the many computer processes within the Sun City Posse. Additionally, she oversaw training of personnel in the use of the new systems.

The Posse honors members who have performed a service that directly impacts the well-being of the community or the Posse with a “Make a Difference” award. This recognition is recommended by a colleague or supervisor who has noticed or been impacted by the recipients’ actions. Highlighting the month of December, five such meritorious awards were presented at the January meeting. The recipients were Toni Ashby, Bob Cable, Doyle Hood, Connie Kurth and Danny Moore.

“As is the case each year, Sun City Posse has transitioned to a new commander and board. We expect to see services to our community continue uninterrupted and even enhanced as we move forward into 2025,” stated Theresa O’Dell, Sun City Posse media relations.
