Sun City Posse experiences change, not all bad

Posted

It has been a taxing few months as this country has battled the deadly coronavirus. The challenges to the mental and physical health of our senior citizens and the attack on our economy have left us spinning.

But throughout this period, the Sun City Posse has continued to see to the safety and security of our community and has even been involved in the planned opening of our new satellite office on Grand Avenue.

While changes during this period had to be implemented, including moving our dispatch service into the homes of senior personnel and dispatchers and curtailing some services, it never constrained our mission — the safety of Sun City. As temperatures hovered around 111 degrees and higher we were still there for you. It was, as always, “safety first.” That has been our mission since our inception more than 45 years ago.

Each day, members of our all-volunteer Sun City Posse put on their uniforms, slipped on their shined shoes, fixed their hats and began their daily patrols of our neighborhoods and businesses. While they were on patrol, other Posse members collaborated with representatives of the Recreation Centers of Sun City’s planning crew and on Aug. 3 we opened our satellite office.

“The purpose of the office is to have a site that is more centralized to Sun City,’ said Posse Commander Rich Nonini. “We believe this site will make it easier to pick up and return Vacation Watch cards and residents’ emergency information cards.”

The office is open from 9 a.m. until noon each day.

“Additionally, the Posse staff at Grand Avenue will be able to access the Posse information data base and website to answer residents’ questions,” he added.

Also, our staff will be available to answer questions from residents who would like more information on how to join the Posse. They will be able to make inquiries and obtain information on Posse activities.

Our commander, who has been on deck since January, has been busy. He and his staff not only had to figure out ways to protect Sun City residents and care for the safety of our all-volunteer employees, but also focus on the new building project.

Mr. Nonini summarized it best.

“When the RCSC offered us the opportunity to be a participant in Grand Avenue, it was a tremendous opportunity for us. We are grateful to the RCSC for giving the Posse the chance to expand our facilities,” he said.

So, although we have seen changes during these past few months, not all change has to be bad. The Sun City Posse has continued its mission to serve and protect and we now have a new satellite office that makes us more of an integral part of our community. I would say that has been a win/win, even during these trying times.
