Sun City pharmacist weighs in on recent Trump order

Posted

President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order May 12 aimed at significantly reducing the cost of prescription medications across the U.S. The policy could deliver major savings to Sun City’s senior population, many of whom rely on fixed incomes and expensive prescriptions.

This is potentially a game-changer. If it’s implemented fully, it could bring much-needed price relief to our Medicare patients and others who depend on critical medications every day.

The order introduces a “most-favored-nation” pricing model, which means Americans would pay no more for prescription drugs than people in countries like Canada, France, and Germany — where many of the same medications are sold for far less.

What the executive order means for you:

• Potential price cuts up to 90% on certain medications.

• Drugmakers have 30 days to lower prices or face regulatory consequences.

• Direct sales to patients will become possible, increasing access to affordable options.

• Middlemen will be reined in, including pharmacy benefit managers who often contribute to inflated drug prices.

• Sun City’s Medicare population may benefit most, as the changes target drugs most used by seniors.

I encourage Sun City residents to check in with their local pharmacy over the coming weeks to better understand how these changes may affect their medication costs.

“We at Rightway Pharmacy are watching this closely. As always, our focus is on serving this community with affordable, personal care. If this policy delivers on its promise, we’ll make sure you benefit from every dollar of savings.
