CAN program continues efforts

Some Sun City home are getting new coats of paint through a Sun City Community Assistance Network program.

“Paint the Town” is a Sun City CAN program that paints the exterior of low-income Sun City residents’ homes. At present, painting is on hold during the hot summer weather. However, nine home were painted since the program started last year. Home are painted through a combination of vendors, including Habitat for Humanity of Central Arizona and Larry McWain, his wife and fellow volunteers.

Six houses were painted by Habitat for Humanity painters at an average cost of $2,330 each. CAN paid a total of $11,633. Three houses were painted by McWain and crew. CAN bought the paint at a cost of $700.77.

The program is open to Sun City residents with a home badly in need of paint and a gross monthly income less than $1,610 (single) or $2,178 (two-person). To see if they qualify, residents can call Sun City CAN at 623-933-7530.

Donations to help this program are gladly accepted. Earmark donation checks for “Paint the Town.” and send to Sun City CAN, 10195 W. Coggins Drive, Sun City, AZ 85351.
