The Sun City Caring Angels volunteer organization recently received donated items from Sun City National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and Honorary Chapter Regent Shirley Staggs at Sun City Christian Church, 9745 W. Palmeras Drive.
Before going on a 38-day driving vacation, organization leader Jody Swank gave Staggs several bags of cut plastic strips to link together and to roll into plarn balls—13 balls were completed. The Caring Angels need more volunteers to save and/or flatten plastic bags and cut into strips to create plarn balls and/or to crochet into colorful plastic mats. They also will accept donations such as water, snacks, travel size soap and shampoo, as well as personal care items to be placed into backpacks, which the sleeping mats are attached to.
These backpacks and sleeping mats are to be given to the nonprofit Veterans First organization, which distributes the backpacks to homeless veterans in the Phoenix, Tucson and Prescott areas.
Join the Caring Angels at the church 9 a.m.-noon Mondays and Tuesdays. No membership fees are required and visitors are welcome during these hours. Contact Swank at yarning8@cox.net for more information.
