The unclaimed cremated remains of 15 veterans were laid to rest May 21 with full military honors at the National Memorial Cemetery of Phoenix.

The Missing in American Veterans Recovery Program Project is a nation-wide project to bury unclaimed veteran remains that are being held in funeral homes across the country. This project’s purpose is to locate, identify and to bury the veterans with honor and respect and to secure a final resting place for the forgotten heroes who served the United States. Giving veterans a proper internment is provided through the efforts of private, state and federal organizations.

Sun City National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Agua Fria chapter regent Peggy Robbins and chapter historian and veteran Debbie Schneider had the privilege and honor to participate in the internment by reading the names of the veterans in a final roll call.

All veteran groups and the public are welcome to attend the MIAP ceremonies.
