The Sun City Cycling Club is hosting its third annual “12 Hours of Sun City Challenge” Friday evening, July 29, through the morning of Saturday, July 30.

All bicyclists are invited to participate. Registration and fee information can be found at suncitycycling.com or register on-site starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening until 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

Cyclists will be riding an eight-mile loop, all contained within Sun City, starting at 8 p.m. July 29 and ending 8 a.m. July 30.

Cyclists will ride anywhere from one loop to as many loops as they can complete before 8 a.m. Saturday. Several riders will ride the loop 13 times to complete a Century (100 miles), a recognized milestone in bicycling.

Phil Davis holds the current record of 17 loops for a total of 136 miles.

All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church, located at the corner of Hutton and Burns in Sun City, will be the staging and control point during the event.

The route starts going east on Hutton Drive from the church, right on Greenway Road, left on Cameo Drive, crosses Thunderbird Boulevard and stays right to stay on Cameo Drive; then left on Agua Fria Drive, left again on Agua Fria Drive. It returns to All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church.

Sun City residents should be aware of increased bicycle traffic overnight July 29 and the morning of July 30.

All riders are required to comply with Arizona vehicle law and Arizona state law for bicycles to have proper lighting and to obey all traffic laws and regulations.
