Sun City Concert Band announces Sousa performance

Posted

The Sun City Concert Band presents Sousa on Parade 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, in the Sundial Auditorium, 14801 N. 103rd Ave.

This concert will feature several of the “March King’s” favorite marches, including “King Cotton” and “The Gallant Seventh.” Interspersed with Sousa’s marches will be a trumpet solo by Dan Reed on “Jimala Beguine,” a saxophone solo by Roger Callahan on “Over the Rainbow” and Jane Higgs returns with her rendition of “Blue Moon.”

Sousa’s music has witnessed a revival recently with “The Sousa Project,” which serves to preserve and promote the works of John Phillip Sousa. Even though Sousa was best known for his military marches, he composed more than 130 works, including 15 operettas and many patriotic songs.

Kenneth Jaeger will be directing the band along with Charles Musgrave, associate conductor. Tickets are $10 at the door the day of the concert with sales beginning 1 p.m. that day.

The band’s spring concert is 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, also at Sundial. Tickets are not needed for this concert.
