Shirley Staggs, regent, and Twila Lobitz, vice regent for the Sun City Agua Fria Chapter of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, recently welcomed Andy Simoneschi, a first responder as an emergency medical technician and survivor of the World Trade Center attacks Sept. 11, 2001, as the speaker for a special assembly at Canyon Ridge School, 17359 W. Surprise Farms Loop North, in the Dysart Unified School District.

Those in attendance were from the Arizona Daughters of the American Revolution, Arizona Sons of the American Revolution, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Association of University Women.

Mr. Simoneschi spoke to grades 5-8, community and public members, telling of his experiences, thoughts and feelings, duties, minor physical injuries and never-ending mental anguish. His message included valuing one’s family, education and loving America. He encouraged the students to say “thank you” to their heroes, first being their parents.

History teacher Christopher Raso and his seventh-grade students presented Mr. Simoneschi with a gift and letters written by the students. Mike Fisch, president of the Saguaro Sons of the American Revolution Chapter, presented Mr. Simoneschi with a special certificate and medal.
