Worshipers at Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church, 11025 N. 111th Ave., were greeted with a kaleidoscope of color as crocheted blankets, lap covers, scarfs and handmade quilts were recently draped over the back of every pew. Also hanging from the end of each pew in sets of three were crocheted hats.
There were a total of 418 items crafted and those items will be distributed to Eve’s Place (a women’s shelter), the Area Agency on Aging, DOVES (an elder abuse agency), Orphan Grain Train, Justa Center (a resource center for people without housing) and Grace Lutheran Church in Phoenix, as they have a free store open to all in need in the community.
Shepherd of the Desert services are 4 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday. A free pancake breakfast is 8-10 a.m. on the last Saturday of the month. All are welcome.
