Sun City CAN accepting donations for services

Posted

The Sun City Community Assistance Network has a number of programs that can assist the low-income residents of the community.

Some of the programs offered by Sun City CAN include annual tax preparation in conjunction with AARP, benefits assistance counseling, house painting in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity, payment for fire department lock boxes, EPCOR condo rebate, and APS and Southwest Gas crisis assistance. CAN staff can also direct residents to resources for services CAN does not offer.

CAN’s services are funded almost entirely through community donations. While the agency does conduct a fund-raising letter campaign annually, residents, including snowbirds, can also donate to help their neighbors throughout the year.

Snowbirds preparing to leave the community now can stop by the CAN office or send their contributions to 10195 W. Coggins Drive, Sun City, AZ 85351. All donations are tax deductible. Snowbirds can also send in their donations from their summer homes or when they return to Sun City.

Many of Sun City’s low-income residents cannot leave for the summer and face challenges that go beyond the heat, according to CAN officials.

Sun City residents who believe they can benefit from Sun City CAN programs or services are encouraged to call 623-933-7530 to set up an appointment with a benefits assistance counselor.
