Sun City resident R.D. Hathaway’s new novel, “Secret Passages,” is available now.

The author has lived in Sun City for a couple years after retiring to Arizona.

“Participating in local activities and getting to know the excellent opportunities provided by Sun City and Sun City West where I have friends has often been interrupted by my need to finish my novel and get it to print,” he wrote in an email. “Now that is done, and it feels good to be able to start celebrating this time of life (as currently limited by the pandemic).”

The novel follows the adventures of a new, young protagonist.

“She’s not a Laura Croft or an Indiana Jones type of person. She’s just a 30-year old, angry newspaper reporter from Iowa who gets in the way of powerful forces in the shadows,” a news release about the novel states. “Her determination to find the truth grows as she deals with threats to her career and her life.”

Mr. Hathaway’s career was in business and government management roles, but he has written for many decades and finally put it all together in this novel. The sequel will be out in a few weeks.
