County benchmark numbers increase at faster pace

Sun Cities COVID cases continue steady climb

County benchmark numbers increase at faster pace

The Arizona Department of Health Services reported the overall number of Sun Cities COVID-19 cases at 2,012 on Dec. 4. That's an increase of 11% over the last week (1,957). Breaking it down by ZIP code, there were 815 in Sun City’s 85351 code and 548 in Sun City’s 85373 code, which includes areas of Peoria and Surprise. Sun City West’s 85375 ZIP code had 649 cases.

Here are the number of COVID-19 cases for ZIP codes that include the Sun Cities and some surrounding areas, according to the ADHS. The ADHS said more than 90% of cases were mapped to the address of the patient’s residence:

The Arizona Department of Health Services has a data dashboard now tracking its three benchmarks for specified business in the state to reopen. Figures represented in the dashboard, updated every Thursday, are about 12 days old to allow for lags in reporting. Benchmarks: ADHS requirements businesses to reopen is fewer than 100 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people, less than 10% test positive for the virus and hospital visits due to COVID-like illnesses is below 10%.
