Members of Sun City Elks Lodge #2559 came together June 14 to celebrate the history of the United States flag. Lodge officers explained the evolution of the flag from the 1775 Pine Tree flag to the 1959 50 star flag, accompanied by the POW-MIA flag. The flags were escorted by lodge veterans and JROTC students from Cactus High School escorted the 50 star flag and POW-MIA flag to their places of honor for the completion of the ceremony. There was a slide presentation explaining more flag history. Everyone joined in the pledge of allegiance and singing “God Bless America.” Refreshments were offered afterwards. Pictured are lodge officers, veteran flag bearers, students and several veteran visitors.
