Spinka: Sun City resident claims flu numbers are worse

Posted

According to your numbers in the July 15 Independent, the number of deaths is around 1,927.

According to the U.S. Census, as of July 1, 2019 the population of Maricopa County was 4.5 million. Therefore, the percentage of deaths is 0.043 percent. This is far less than the annual flu.

I can’t find anywhere on Arizona Department of Health Services’ website the actual count but according to a statewide daily newspaper’s website, for the two-month period from September 2019 to Nov. 16, 2019 there were 950 deaths in Maricopa County attributed to the flu.

Therefore, it would seem that the annual flu is far deadlier than COVID-19 has been so far.
