Spinka: Resident not happy to hear Sun City driveway music

Posted

I saw in the latest Independent an article about a driveway concert.

I’m happy that some people enjoy them but for some of us who live more than a block away and have to endure the amplified sound coming through closed windows and doors it is very disturbing and the constant beat gives some of us headaches.

Just as a reminder, there is a Maricopa County noise ordinance, P-23, which states, in part, “It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any radio, loudspeaker, musical instrument, or other sound producing, sound reproducing, or sound amplification equipment which emits noise that can be heard from within closed residential structures located within 500 feet of the boundary of the property from which such noise emanates.”

The code also states that the fine for the first conviction is no larger that $300 and goes up upon further convictions.

Those who come to listen to the music are only sitting a few feet away from those who are playing. What we are asking is that the noise (music) be lowered so that we are not disturbed.

However if it continues, we will have no choice but to contact the Sheriff’s Office to have this ordinance enforced. Please do not force us to take this action.
