Speak Up: Sun City residents should be able to opt out of RCSC fees

Posted

When residents Scott and Lea Murphy wrote in a letter to the editor that they think homeowners should have the option to opt out of Recreation Centers of Sun City fees because they don’t use its facilities and don’t plan to use them, it struck a chord.

  • “My wife and I don't use any of the facilities, we are on a fixed income, like so many people. Wish we didn't have to pay for something we never use!” — Sam Flaster via email
  • “I think it’s terrible that they have raised them so much. Maybe the people on top need to cut their salaries and stop raising our RCSC dues. Apparently, they aren’t budgeting right. When we moved here eight years ago, it was $450. Now they’re going to be $650. Someone high up isn’t fixing the problem. Maybe it’s time for them to leave. — Bernadette Babin via email
  • “I am so very surprised that there is no control over increasing fees the RCSS can charge. Surely there are laws against this? Millions and millions of dollars are perpetually pumped into this organization. — Philippa Davis via email
  • “The recreation fees should be like a membership. You pay monthly and if you decide not to use the facility then you cancel your membership. That would be fair.” — Monica Kruger via email
  • “Totally agree. Ridiculous fee increase. Not even providing widow exemption, something even Maricopa County property tax allows.” — dapoik via email
