Sounds of the Southwest Singers, Chorale perform May 7

Sounds of the Southwest Singers and Sounds of the Southwest Chorale, two of the foremost community choirs of the greater Sun Cities, will perform their final Sacred Concert repertoire of the season 3 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at American Lutheran Church, 17200 N. Del Webb Blvd. Each group will perform individually and then join together for their final selection.

Both choirs are directed by Founding Director Matt Deller and accompanied by Hyunmi Lee.

The Sounds of the Southwest Singers was first established in 2010, and the Chorale five years later, in 2015. The Singers perform year-round, more than a dozen concert events per year. They welcome anyone who loves to sing and perform and present several genres of music including sacred, pop/Broadway, Christmas and their Faith and Freedom concerts, highlighting their patriotic repertoire.

For this concert, the Singers will perform several inspirational and sacred selections, such as “Every Time I Feel the Spirit” and “The Prayer”.

The Sounds of the Southwest Chorale begin their fall session in September, concluding with several Christmas performances. Their spring session begins in January with performances in April and May. This group performs a more traditional style of repertoire. For their final spring concert, they are performing “Our Father,” composed by Pepper Choplin. This Cantata takes the audience though a journey of the Lord’s Prayer. Each segment of the Lord’s Prayer is intertwined with a musical setting.

The choirs have performed locally, nationally and internationally during their 13-plus years, and have sung the National Anthem for several of the Arizona professional sports teams. They have participated in Glendale Glitters, Arizona State Fair and the annual Hometown Christmas Parade in Glendale. Nationally they have performed at Disneyland, on the stages of New York’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. They also performed in Washington DC at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and toured Hawaii and Alaska. Their European adventure tours include the UK, France, Germany, Austria and Italy. Performances at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Normandy American Cemetery in France, on board the USS Missouri and Pearl Harbor have all been bucket list experiences. This fall they plan to travel to Nashville to participate in their first professional recording with composer friend Joseph Martin.

The concert is free, with an opportunity for giving. Donations are never required but always welcomed to benefit the organization’s purpose within the communities they serve. Sounds of the Southwest Singers, Inc. is a non-profit organization.
