Joan N. Smith and Patricia Lewis Finnell took leadership positions at Sun Health Foundation in July.

Smith was elected by her peers to chairwoman of Sun Health Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Finnell was elected to her second year of a 2-year term as chairwoman of Sun Health’s Board of Directors.

Smith brings a wide range of leadership experience and a life-long passion for community service to the role. In addition to board chair, she is serving her 26th year as a Rotarian and is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. She is currently Membership Chairwoman of the Rotary Club of Goodyear Pebble Creek. Smith also serves at the district level as Community Service Chairwoman and on the Charitable Fund.

Previously, Smith worked for several non-profit agencies as development director and executive director, helping with funding to support differently-abled adults find work, collaborating with the court system to provide impaired-driving education, and coordinating fundraising campaigns for the Homeless Youth Connection.

Finnell has more than 35 years of extensive professional and volunteer experience in professional development, nonprofit governance, youth causes, mental health, civic work and fundraising. Before being named board chairwoman, her roles included chair and vice-chair of the Foundation Board of Trustees, and currently she is an ex-officio member of that board.
