Shirley Mae Barone
Posted
St George, Utah – Shirley Mae Barone, 95. Shirley Mae was born on January 29,1929 in Chicago, Illinois. She married her first love Nicholas A. DiVito at the age of 18. Then in 1963 she met and married her soulmate, Castenio A. Barone. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Lynn Marie Burger (DiVito) (Raymond). She is also survived by her second daughter/niece/Goddaughter, Christi Ann Higens (Brudd) (Bill) and her favorite nephews, Frank Mazza (Jan) and Joe Mazza (Beth).
Shirley was raised in the Chicago area until she and Castenio retired to Sun City, Arizona where she lived for 35 years. She then moved to St. George, Utah to live the last three years of her life with her daughter.
She was known for her love of animals. There were many in her life, starting with Sandy, her first dog, at a very young age. There are too many to mention here, but her most beloved was her, Gracie, the beautiful calico cat, who recently left her at age 19 years old.
She brought sunshine everywhere she went. Shirley is known for her love of the Chicago Cubs, volunteering, dancing, singing, telling her “stories” at every opportunity available, playing cards while enjoying her wine and of course, playing the slots. Her well-known traits were her strength, independence and stubbornness. She had many friends in her long, full life. Ask anyone and they will say “everyone loved Shirley Mae”.
There will be a graveside service at 10 am on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Sundland Memorial Park in Sun City, Arizona.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to one of her favorite organizations: PAWS Animal Rescue www.stgeorgepaws.org and Benevilla Care Support www.benevilla.org.
