Copeland: Seems to be no rational thinking

What has happened to rational thinking in Sun City?

There has not been a single incident of coronavirus in the Sun City area, yet the rec centers are canceling bowling, and who knows what else, until the season is over, and many of the rec centers are closing without notification. I went to Bell Library this morning to check my emails and it was closed. I had to go to my SunMacs Club (which thankfully was still open) to write this email.

What are we old people supposed to do for entertainment if all the facilities are closed? The Weekly Independent announced on the front page this week, “RCSC facilities remain open,” and now I find this is not true. Who is making all these crazy, irrational decisions.

Coronavirus is not a problem for 97% of the people who get it. Why is this not being publicized more? The press seems to be creating this hysteria by reporting mostly about the few people who have died. The flu has killed more people than coronavirus and we did not close our facilities for that. What are parents supposed to do with their children when the schools close? What are people, who need the income, supposed to do when their hours are reduced or eliminated?

I don’t understand what the panic is all about. We need saner minds in control. I’ll bet the people making these decisions get paid whether they report for work or not.

Editor’s Note: Two people were confirmed to have the virus in Sun City two weeks ago and one Sun City resident died from the virus this week. RCSC officials decided to close facilities after the Independent containing a story headlined “RCSC facilities remain open” was printed and many were delivered to residents.
