Schoen: Sun City pools open but fitness not is silly

Posted

I have lived in Sun City for more than 20 years and have seen Recreation Centers of Sun City officials do some silly things and made some really silly recommendations, but closing the fitness centers but not the pool is the best of them all.

When the rec centers were reopened I walked the track every day at Fairway Center, 10600 W. Peoria Ave., and worked on a few weight machines. I called it my private gym because there is never hardly anyone there using the facility. I have never had to wait for a machine and I have never seen anyone without a mask.

I have seen a lot of individuals who walked the track who could not walk outside for various reasons, but walked inside and got some exercise. One gentleman said to me one day, “I hope this lets me live a little longer because of walking on the track.”

The track is a part of the gym about as much as the pool is part of the gym. Even when you check in you don’t say you’re going to the machines when you sign in, you say you are either going to the track or work out area.

If you read Gov. Doug Ducy’s order and think that the track is part of the gym you could, according to paragraph five, submit a request to open the track.

Has any of the RCSC staff taken any action with the pool walkers who go from the walk area to the swim side of the pool and just because they are on the swimmers side remove their masks and have their gab fest on that side, or they all remove their masks when they “so call” sun bath.

How about our golfers. They all gather around the hole, they all, one time or another, handle the pole sticking out of the hole or they all reach in the hole to get their ball.

I went to my doctors yesterday and when I signed in the pen I used went into another jar after I signed in and they then completely whipped them down before putting them back in the jar with the sign in pens.

What about the poles and holes on the golf course? You’re going to say that because it is outside it is OK.

The track at the rec centers should not be closed, and especially if it is the only outlet for many of the older and handicapped Sun City individuals.

Do something good and open the track at Fairway.
