Schafer: RCSC controls rules without resident input

Posted

I agree with Wayne J. Braband’s letter to the editor (“Yearly dues should be less for closures,” Sun City Independent, May 20, 2020) where he says the fees should be reduced because the centers were closed.

I also agree with all of the other people who have written about the pandemic, and they believe that only a few people rule the masses in Sun City. Every election, we vote for people who intend to look out for “we the people” of Sun City, but soon after the election, they are drawn into the Recreation Centers of Sun City clan and want to control the rules without giving us input.

There is a lot to be said about the rec fees. For example, my business partner, who co-owned a rental property with me, died April 2, 2019, but when the rec fees came due almost three months later, I was charged two fees because his name was still on the deed. I presented his death certificate to the rec office (I own the home now with rights of survivor), but I was told that I had to pay both fees because both names are on the deed. To remove his name, I would have to spend thousands of dollars refinancing the loan, so this is not really an option for me.

So where is it written that I must pay a fee for someone who has died and I have provided a death certificate? I have contacted RCSC about this, but I have never received anything in writing explaining why. So I guess I will have to start the battle again when rec fees come due again this year.

This is socialism; we are not operating as a free country, because we are ruled by just a few who “have the power.” It is time to stand up before we have no rights remaining.
