Retailers should help onsite employees hurt by online sales

Posted

Retiring after 30 years working with clients in the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts and in business, I developed a sensitivity to the needs of both employers and employees.

In my opinion, retail employees are being cheated by their employers and customers every day. Many customers use retail stores as a showroom. They ask sales people a lot of questions, then go home and look online for deals:  better selection, better prices, better return policies, better warranties, free home delivery and special online benefits.

If we use a store’s app, we are rewarded. Online sales profits go into the company pockets and onsite sales people get nothing.

Every retail store has a market area of usually three to five miles. I believe store employees deserve a monthly bonus (with AI, maybe faster) for all online sales in the ZIP codes served by their stores.

Bonuses motivate employees to increase sales and develop their retail sales skills.
