ProMusica Arizona Chorale and Orchestra, joined by the Carolyn Eynon Singers, presents “Latin Spice” at its upcoming concert 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 5 at American Lutheran Church, 17200 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City.

Featured in this concert is Misa Azteca, a symphonic oratorio in a modern Mariachi-style mass setting for choir and orchestra, ethnic percussion and classical guitar, as well as Aztec style drumming on traditional instruments and dance rhythms.

Misa Azteca is sung in Latin, Spanish and Nahuatl (native Aztec) and includes translations and visuals on large video screens. Composed in 1997 by Joseph Julian Gonzales, Misa Azteca has performed at venues such as the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, the Vatican, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

“Latin Spice” includes other Latin-influenced music including “Blue Tango” by Leroy Anderson and “Night and Day” by Cole Porter, and finishes with the finale “Dance a Cachuca” from the operetta “The Gondoliers” by Gilbert and Sullivan.

Tickets are $24 for adults, $22 for seniors (65+) and military, $22 for students (16-26), and $12 for children 15 and younger.

Since its founding nearly 18 years ago, ProMusica Arizona has almost 100 multigenerational singers and instrumentalists, and has performed more than 175 times for over 131,000 people. ProMusica Arizona is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, and is supported by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, which receives support from the State of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts.
