Peterson: Rock climbing absent in plans for Sun City center

Posted

Recreation Centers of Sun City management recently revealed their plans for the Mountain View Center remodel.

What was noticeably absent was a rock climbing wall that was part of the original plan approved by the ad hoc committee and the RCSC Board of Directors more than a year ago.

The sport of indoor rock climbing has been growing rapidly and is an activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is very safe — there is no danger of falling because of an auto belay device that gently lowers a climber when they wish to descend. Including a rock climbing wall would be a small investment that could result in big returns in regards to attracting new residents.

I believe it is important for Sun City to be relevant and stay “ahead of the curve,” and adding a rock climbing wall will do just that. If you share my concerns please show up at the next  RCSC board meeting and share your thoughts.
