Peterson: Reader believes RCSC board sold out to Sun City pickleball lobby

Posted

It appears that our board of directors has sold out to the pickleball lobby.

Their vote to delay the Mountain View remodel is at best short sighted and at worst incompetent. This project has been studied and re-studied over the last five years by the Long Range Planning Committee, an ad-hoc committee as well as previous editions of the board of directors. Now, our current board wants to re-study it again and come up with a new plan that would move the performing arts center at Lakeview, eliminate the multi-purpose gym and instead add more indoor pickleball.

The audacity for this board to think they have some special insight or vision to dismiss and disregard the hundreds of hours that were put in previously is alarming. The theatre arts group has been waiting for too many years for a performing arts center. There is no facility in Sun City that would accommodate volleyball, basketball, badminton and a myriad of other clubs that would like to schedule activities in this kind of a space (multi purpose gym).

Pickleball already has 26 courts in Sun City with another 16 in the planning stage at Lakeview. How much is enough at the expense of other clubs that need the space that a multi-purpose gym will provide? If your club is tired of one more delay, please, please contact the board and let them know.
