PEO Chapter EO touts busy month of May

Posted

Members of the EO Chapter of Philanthropic Education Organization, located in Surprise, filled the month of May with numerous activities.

One was a visit to the Desert Caballeros Western Museum in Wickenburg to see the “Cowgirl Up!” exhibit May 11. This exhibit runs through Sept. 4 and features the work of contemporary female artists specializing in the genre of Western art. Two galleries were toured. One focused on miniatures, which were immediately for sale. The other gallery showcased full-size pieces of art. While these can be purchased, they cannot be picked up or delivered until the exhibit closes in September.

All proceeds benefit the artists as well as the museum.

Those in attendance enjoyed shopping in the museum store and nearby shops as well as a lunch at a restaurant that served sandwiches. Each month, the women of the Chapter undertake a social outing and this one to see “Cowgirl Up!” was deemed a favorite.

A number of EO Chapter members also attended the annual Arizona State PEO Convention May 11-14 at the El Conquistador Hotel in Tucson. This was the first convention to be held since the COVID pandemic surfaced. The next convention is scheduled for May 11-13, 2023 at the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass, Chandler.

The primary focus of the convention was the business of the organization including the election of new officers. There were also workshops, displays of philanthropic projects and events that recognized the formation of new chapters, Golden Sisters who have reached milestone years of membership and the passing of sisters throughout the state.

Two EO sisters were acknowledged as Golden Girls: Phyllis Russell, 50 years, and Marion Nicoll, 60 years. Chapter EO was organized in 2001, thus celebrating its 21st anniversary this past February.
