Peggy Juneau chosen as June artist of the month by Artists by the Lake

Sun City resident Peggy Juneau is originally from Los Angeles. She specializes in Native American themed mixed-media art and draws on her Native experience as Blackfoot and San Carlos Apache as inspiration. She uses bold colors from nature, which challenge the viewer and helps convey her personal, traditional and contemporary Native ideas.

Ms. Juneau includes her own photographs, feathers and natural bits of nature and accents her work with pastel and acrylic.

Her work has been accepted to many shows at the West Valley Art Council Gallery in Surprise and is currently on display at the WHAM Gallery along Dysart Road in Surprise. Her work is included in the “Recycle” exhibit until June 27. She also had work accepted to the “Celebration of Artists 2020” show at the West Valley Art Museum, which is located in the Peoria City Hall Gallery, 8401 W. Monroe St., and can be viewed until June 25. She won first and second place for her work entered in the All Sun City Art Show in February 2020.

“I love to create and re-interpret Native themes within my art,” Ms. Juneau states, “like being a strong Native woman or portraying a moment at an Apache Sunrise Dance.”

Ms. Juneau is a member and past vice president of the Artists by The Lake Club and Palo Verde Art Club. She is also a member of WHAM.

View her art at the Artists by the Lake Club at the Lakeview Recreation Center, along Thunderbird Road, on the second floor. The club is open for members 9 a.m.-noon Monday through Friday. A mask must be worn in the room at all times. To join the club, contact Deb Dahlin at debdahlinart@yahoo.com. Must be a resident of Sun City and have a valid RCSC card to join. The fee is $10 a year.
