Members of Willowbrook United Methodist Church, 19390 N. 99th Ave., put out a call for new pillows and blankets for the Veteran’s Furniture Center, 2319 W. Holly St.

They wanted to make a “mountain” of bedding and anyone who stopped by the church fellowship hall noticed they had a hard time building a mountain because the pillows were wrapped in plastic and kept sliding around. They ended up with so many pillows and blankets they filled up two pickup truck beds.

Veterans Furniture Center is a volunteer-based nonprofit that plays a unique role in coordinating the move of homeless veterans into permanent housing. They provide new furniture and household goods to help veterans transition from homelessness to a furnished home.

In addition to the blankets and pillows, there were several hundred dollars in donations. Liz Peck, of the church’s Outreach Committee, contacted the center at recommendations so she purchased many other essential household items.

Additionally, the church’s Kris Krafter sewing group furnished a large selection of pillow cases made from military-themed fabric.
