More than 70 play in Sun City octogenarian tournament

The Sun City Ladies' 31st Octogenarian Tournament was recently held at the Lakes East Golf Course, 10433 W. Talisman Road.

Seventy-five ladies participated in the two-day tournament April 7 and April 11, playing nine holes of golf each day with a 9 a.m. shotgun start, playing front nine holes one day and back nine holes the next. Play April 11 was followed by a fiesta lunch at the Sundial Rec Center, catered by Lindsey and Laurie of Lakes West Golf Course. Maxine Brandolini and Sharon Word provided entertainment.

Four ladies who participated were in their nineties. Shirley Wilkie won overall low net with a score of 62, and Joan Falk won low gross with a score of 80 from The Nifty Niners.

Of the octogenarian participants, Beverly Schuch won the overall low net with a score of 56, and Nancy Gray won the overall low gross with a score of 67.

MaryLou Grooms and Dana Kean won contests closest to the pin on hole #2. Beverly Schuch and Judy Cicotte won closest to the pin on hole #10. Joanne Emmett and Carol Trujillo won the closest to the line on hole #4. The longest putt on hole #11 was Barb Livergood and Janice Buckley.
